Diana  Whitney ART
Wildlife in its many forms captures Diana’s  imagination.   Pronghorn bounding across the grasslands, bison grazing in the Lamar Valley,  wolves racing along Slough Creek,  bears eating White bark pine cones on Dunraven Pass; and birds of all kinds: Yellow-rumped warblers catching insects in the air, nuthatches finding bugs in trees while hanging upside down, and swans dabbling in ponds, lakes, or rivers all are captivating in their own way.   She paints portraits of wildlife in its environment at a time when it’s focused on its own actions, habitat, or prey.  She  focuses  on the colors, shapes, and forms of the landscape and the wildlife in it and how the light affects all of these elements.  Diana was born in Texas but now lives and paints in Port Townsend, Washington.  Her favorite scenes include wildlife but she also paints plein air landscapes.  Her travels in the West provide her with many opportunities to see wildlife and the images gathered during her travels keep the memories vivid and provide detail for the paintings.  In 2010, she traveled to Alaska with her husband, Bob and enjoyed seeing Alaskan grizzlies, Musk ox,  and caribou in the wild.   She paints primarily with oil and occasionally in acrylic.
